Eisenhower Shoots Straight

President Eisenhower was known as a straight shooter. Given this, it is probably no surprise that the freeway system named after him was designed with an odd quirk. 20 percent of it is designed to be straight regardless of the terrain. Why? The straight sections are designed to be used as emergency landing strips. How’s that for odd?
